Mr. John Joseph (Jack) Burke
Class of 1940

Jack Burke graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1939. He then attended Rice University and later served in the United States Marine Corps.

During his professional golf carrer he won 17 major tournaments. 1952 was his biggest year with 4 tournament wins but the P.G.A. and Master Victories in 1956 were his greatest achievements.

Other significant victories included the Bing Crosby National PRO-AM, 1950; Houston Open 1952 and 1959; Japan Open 1961, Texas State Open 1963.

Jack was a member of the Ryder Cup Team 5 times and captained it in 1957 and 1973.

He was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame in 1976, and is the owner of Champions Golf Course in Houston, which he co-founded with Jimmy Demaret.

Inducted into St. Thomas High School Hall of Honor February 12, 1976.
