Was Born in Houston, Texas, July 25, 1888, Robert Emmet and Maria
Louisa (Hamilton) Kelly.
Educated at St. Thomas High School, Georgetwon Preparatory School,
Georgetown University; Catholic University (Bachelor of Arts degree
1908), University of Texas (Bachelor of Laws 1910).
Was a member of the Law Firm of Andrews, Kelly Kurth & Campbell
and its predecessors 1910-1946. Established the law firm of Kelley
& Ryan: now Kelley, Ryan, Merril, & young, 1951. General attorney
for the Missouri-Pacific Lines, 1919-1950. Director Hughes Tool company
1938-1946. Member of the Alien Hearing Board for the southern district
of Texas 1942-1945. Member of many legal, fraternal and historical
associations and societies. Director of the National Council of Catholic
Men Chairman of the Catholic celebration of the Galveston Diocese
of the Texas Centennial Celebration 1936. Member of the senate of
the University of St. Thomas. Awarded Honorary Doctor Of Laws Degree
in 1936 from St. Edward's University and in 1958 From Catholic University
of America.
Received Papal honor of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, 1937,
and in 1950 was named Knight of the Grand Cross.
Married October 11,1911, to Mary Elizabeth Young- father of four
children. Died in Houston November 17,1966. His biography 1969.
Inducted posthumously into St. Thomas High School Hall of Honor on
November 17,1977.
