| The McConn Brothers

The McConn brothers are the sons of Ethel and John Luke McConn, who
in 1939 moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Houston, Texas. Each was outstanding
in his respective profession.
Awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star while serving in Europe,
John Luke (Jack) McConn, Jr., Class of 1941,
attended the University of Texas as both an undergraduate and a law
student. Upon receiving his law degree, Jack served as a trial lawyer
in Houston and is currently with the law firm of McConn and Williams
L.L.P. Because of Jack's dedication and the quality of his work, he
became President of the Houston Bar Association and a past director
of the State Bar of Texas. He is an active member of Holy Rosary Parish.
Robert George McConn, Sr., Class of 1942, attended
Rice Institute and Tulane University. He earned his medical degree
from Baylor Medical School. Dr. Bob did his medical residency at Hermann
Hospital and a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at Jefferson
Davis Hospital Cardiac Clinic. He served as a medical officer in the
United States Navy and Air Force. Bob practiced internal medicine
in Houston for over forty years. During that time he co-founded the
Medical Clinic of Houston and held memberships in the Alpha Omega
Alpha Honorary Medical Society and the Texas Club of Internists. He
was an active member at St. Anne Catholic Church until his death.
James Joseph McConn, Class of 1944, graduated from
the University of Notre Dame and began working with building materials
and home building in Houston. In 1969 he was President of the Houston
Home Builders Association and also received Builder of the Year Award
by the Home Builders Association.
Former Major Louie Welch appointed Jim to City Council and later
was elected to serve as a two-term Houston Council member. He became
Houston's mayor during the boom years of 1978 through 1982. The Houston
Chronicle described him as “…the most naturally and confidently gregarious
Houston mayor of modern times.” Jim also served as Vice President
of the Houston Sports Association and Chairman of the National Association
of Home Builders Committee. He also served as Director of the Greater
Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau from 1989 until 1997, the year
of his death.
Thomas Peter (Tim) McConn, Class of 1951, an active
member of St. Michael's Parish until his death, graduated from the
University of Texas at Austin, having majored in petroleum engineering.
Tim began his distinguished career in the energy business as a petroleum
engineer for Amoco and moved on as President of Seagull Energy Exploration
& Production. He was honored to be a member of the United States
Department of the Interior Minerals Management Advisory Board. He
also served as President of the American Petroleum Institute and was
a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Inducted into St. Thomas Hall of Honor November 20, 2003.
