St. Thomas High School Admission Process

In order to apply to St. Thomas for the 2009-2010 school year, you must do the following:

  1. Contact the Admissions Office and request an admissions packet or download the forms. Forms and packets will not be available in the office or online until about Sept. 1.
  2. Complete and return the application for admission form along with a $50 application fee.
  3. Request that applicant’s school records, including 7th and entire first semester 8th grades and standardized test scores, be submitted by his current school as soon after January 1, 2009, as possible.
  4. Take the High School Placement Test. To pre-register for the test, either download the Registration form or pick up a form at Open House. Walk-in Registration will also be taken on the test day. The testing fee is $25. Click here for test preparation aids. Applicants must request on the HSPT that their scores be sent to St. Thomas for consideration.

Note: The Application for Admission fee is $50 and the Testing Fee is an additional $25.

Admissions Criteria
In order to ensure that an applicant is able to handle St. Thomas’ challenging college preparatory curriculum, selective admissions decisions are based on the following:

  • Compatibility with the St. Thomas Community including priority of choice in selecting St. Thomas High School
  • Results of the High School Placement Test
  • Overall junior high record (academic, behavioral and attendance)
  • Recommendations of junior high principal and teachers
  • Quality of Application Essay/Involvement in school activities

Applicants for 9th grade:

It is highly recommended that an applicant for the 9th grade take the February entrance test and have his application file completed by the first Friday in February. We anticipate that our incoming Freshman class will be filled with our first choice applicants following the first test date. Other applicants will be placed on our waiting list until space becomes available.

Transfer applicants:

Transfer applicants must follow the same procedures as above except that current high school teachers must submit recommendation forms. Final decisions about transfer students are made about May 1, after we have received third quarter or fifth sixth weeks grades and conducted a personal interview.
