Coach Harold "Burr" Davis Coach Davis, a native of Jacksonville, Texas, was an Honorable Mention All-American lineman at the University of Houston. After graduating from college in 1959, he played professional football in the Canadian Football League. Coach Davis joined the staff at St. Thomas as the assistant football coach for linemen in 1963. Under his tutelage 6 linemen were named to the Catholic All-American Team and scores received athletic scholarships after graduation. The success of Coach Davis' players was primarily due to his ability to teach technique to linemen and his emphasis on conditioning. Many of his undersized linebackers and linemen were able to dominate larger opponents because of the skills taught by Coach Davis and the stamina built from enduring sprints after practice. In 1970, as he prepared to leave St. Thomas for a head coaching
position at Klein High School, Coach Davis was requested to remain
as head coach of the Eagles during Coach McDonald's absence. Putting
his promotion at Klein on hold, Coach Davis guided the 1970 football
team to the state championship game.
