Frank B. Mandola - 1965

Frank B. Mandola joined the freshman football and baseball teams as soon as he showed up on the St. Thomas campus in 1961. He then lettered three years on the varsity football team and two years on the varsity baseball squad. He was twice named all state in baseball, twice named all state in football and was an All American his senior year in football. The school won the TCIL state championship in baseball his junior and senior years and the TCIL state championship in football his senior year. Joe played on the American Legion Baseball team that won the state championship in 1965, belting 12 homeruns in 24 games.

Frankie B. was awarded an athletic scholarship to Rice University after high school. After spending his first year in college on the freshmen teams, he became a starting offensive lineman for the football team and a starting first baseman for the baseball team as a sophomore. The baseball squad was ranked fourth in the nation in 1967. Frankie B. lettered and started three years in both football and baseball.
