Scholarship Information
Review the list below for some of the college schoalrships that are available, paying close attention to the deadlines for application.
APRIL
* The Don’t Mess with Texas Scholarship will award a $3,000 scholarship and two $1,000 scholarships to seniors who have taken leadership roles to prevent litter in their schools or communities. A brief essay and two letters of recommendation are required. Applications may be obtained by logging on to: www.dontmesswithtexas.org. Deadline: 4/4
* Cat Lift Trucks offers two $5,000 scholarships for graduating seniors who will enroll in a college institution within the state of Texas and who has a minimum GPA of 3.0 and ranks in the upper one-half of the graduating class. If interested, you must apply online at www.cat-lift.com Deadline: 4/4
* The Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Greater Houston awards two scholarships to graduating seniors who are of Italian descent. One is merit based only and the other is merit based with financial need. The scholarship is a $1,000 renewable award. Two letters of recommendation, an essay and financial records are required with the application. See your counselor for an application. Deadline: 4/15
* Sembradores de Amistad Educational Foundation awards numerous scholarships to Hispanic seniors within Harris County. Students must rank in the upper half of their graduating class, demonstrate leadership qualities with achievements and school and community involvement. A one-page essay and references are required. If interested, see your counselor for an application. Deadline: 4/15
* The Houston Golf Association/Friends of Junior Golf awards two scholarships each worth $2,500 per semester to a student who has: a) participated in ANY junior golf event and b) whose primary residence is within the greater Houston area. See your counselor for an application or you may visit the web site at www.hga.org/juniorgolf. Applications must include a transcript, essay, financial information and recommendations. Deadline: 4/16
* The Houston Chapter of The Links, Incorporated awards a $1,500 scholarship to Houston area students of color who demonstrates at least a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship is based on both academic and financial need. If interested, please see your counselor for an application. Deadline: 4/18
* The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) offers over $300,000 in scholarships through their National Scholarship Competition. Students who demonstrate exceptional talent and interest in the areas of Fashion Design, Visual Communications, Interior Design, Digital Media, Fashion Merchandising, or Graphic Design will be eligible for a one-year scholarship. MAY
* The Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation awards 61 meritorious scholarships to graduating seniors to be used at any accredited, post-secondary institution. To apply for this one-time grant, see your school counselor for an application or visit the website at www.ecisf.org Deadline: 5/15
* Beta Theta Pi Fraternityoffers two $250 scholarships to entering freshman male students who will be attending The University of Mississippi. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA. For an application and more information, please see your counselor. Deadline: 5/21
JUNE
* Texas E. “Tex” Schramm Freshman Scholarship presented by Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity at The University of Texas at Austin (TX) awards scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $250. Applicants will be selected based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service, and leadership abilities. For further details and an application, see your counselor. ApplyingToSchool.com has a list of scholarships that are available for over 390 intended college majors. Scholarships range from $1,000 to$2,500 for up to four years. GPA requirement is 70 or better and an essay is required. Application deadline is May 29 of each year. Each scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years.
