The Annual Fund

Traditions loom large at St. Thomas High School. From Fish Week to Round-Up, and from the Mother-Son and Father-Son Masses to the efforts of the Mothers' Club, traditions have defined the character of St. Thomas arguably more than any other way.

But no tradition has created the spirit of St. Thomas more than the Basilian Tradition. Their motto of “Teach Me Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge” has been the cornerstone of an education that has fostered the development of more than 10,000 young men, many of whom have achieved great things. The school’s graduates include a Pulitzer Prize winner, a Medal of Honor winner, a missionary martyr, Catholic Bishops, a Director of the FBI, a Vice Chairman of Ford Motor Company, professional athletes, a U.S. congressman, a mayor of Houston, and most importantly life-long learners, loving husbands and caring fathers.

It is this tradition that has created an extended community that includes not only current students and alumni, but also their families, friends, and associates. In the words of our President, Rev. Ronald Schwenzer, C.S.B., “A St. Thomas education is not only for life, it’s a way of life.” Those of us who have attended St. Thomas or who have had sons graduate from this school know that this tradition is like no other in how it influences lives.

Our goal is to continue a strong, competitive educational program. To do this, we must keep this level of excellence affordable. As the gap widens between tuition and the actual cost of educating a student at St. Thomas, we all make up the difference through our generosity. The most significant contribution any of us can make to St. Thomas is to the Annual Fund. It is the “life blood” of our giving program. A healthy Annual Fund provides for the needs of our students in basic, yet essential, ways: state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance learning, electronic teaching aids and other educational tools, and perhaps most importantly, highly qualified and skilled classroom instructors.

Your Contribution Will Sustain the Basilian Tradition

Please help us keep St. Thomas the absolute finest all-male Catholic school in the state of Texas. A gift to this year’s Annual Fund is a gift to St. Thomas, but more importantly for your son and all the other young men at St. Thomas, it truly is a gift for life. Whether $10 or $5,000, please make a commitment, and help the Basilian Tradition continue to guide our young men as we enter the second century of excellence at St. Thomas.

This fund was established in 1991 to strengthen the tuition assistance program and to provide unrestricted financial support for our school. Each year we ask alumni and current parents to give to St. Thomas. Response has continued to be generous, and we are confident that we will receive generous support again this year for the 2007-2008 Annual Fund.

We thank those who have already given to this year’s fund. If you have not already responded, we urge you to send in a donation to help our school continue to open the doors for future generations. To give an online donation, just click on the link at the top of this page.

Participation…

Everyone can, and should, participate in the Annual Fund. Our goal is to have an overall alumni participation rate greater than 20 percent. Each year a number of faculty and staff members and their families have contributed to the Annual Fund. This year, we again are asking our faculty and staff to give as they did overwhelmingly last year.

Issue a Challenge to Classmates and Fellow Alumni

Another way to encourage participation would be for one class to issue a challenge to another rival class.

Can we count on your support this year? Every gift, no matter the size, is appreciated.

How you can help sustain the Basilian Tradition that truly has been a gift of life for thousands of young men.

"I often meet guys who graduated five or six years before I did, and the things they are doing are incredible. That’s the tradition of St. Thomas: preparing young men, regardless of their ethnic background, their financial background, their religious creed, to become successful at whatever they choose to do in life."
