HAMUN (Houston Area Model United Nations)
The Houston Area Model United Nations (HAMUN), sponsored by the United Nations Association of Houston, is now in its 30th year. It offers area high school students the opportunity to conduct a model meeting of the United Nations and its various committees. The meeting is held on the campus of the University of Houston once a year, with each school representing one or more U.N. member countries. Students draft resolutions, participate in U.N. debates and present the position of their country to various mock U.N. bodies. Students study the policies of their adopted country and meet after school once a week for several weeks to prepare their country's positions on key U.N. issues. Two preliminary meetings are held on Saturday mornings, usually in September and in November. The General Assembly meets for two afternoons in February. St. Thomas will represent 2 countries at the HAMUN conference at the University of Houston on February 3rd & 4th. Our countries are Syria and Philippines.
