Publications
The students of St. Thomas High School produce "The Carom," an annual literary magazine, "The Aquin," an annual yearbook, and "The Eagle," the school newspaper printed 5 to 10 times a year. The school's newspaper, published since 1929, has the distinction of being the longest continually published high school newspaper in the state.
Students in the Publications class have the responsibility of producing all three publications. Information is gathered with assistance from other STH classes and clubs.
1) "The Carom," associated with the Photography and Drawing classes and the Writers' Club, is open to all students and meets every other Wednesday before school. The Photography and Drawing classes submit their artistic work and members of the Writers' Club submit their creative writing to the Publications class for inclusion into the literary magazine.
2) "The Aquin," produced by the Publications Staff, is a collective effort from many of the students at STH. Any student may submit a non-posed photograph of another student(s). Students are encouraged to submit written personal glimpses of any incident that occurred at school, especially those incidents in which they were directly involved. Photographs and articles should be given to their English teacher or
directly to the Publications staff.
3) "The Eagle" also is the responsibility of the Publications class. This class gathers news items and produces every issue of the newspaper. Non-class members may contribute to the newspaper by drawing editorial
cartoons or graphics related to current articles, by writing letters to the editor and/or personal columns and by contributing news and feature photographs they have taken.
The goal of the student publications is two-fold. Number one is to produce publications that are student-generated, about students and their interests. The second is to produce quality publications that can compete regionally and nationally. The students in the Publications class have learned during the last four years that fulfilling the first goal inevitably allows them to achieve the second. STH produces publications that students actually read, use, and enjoy.
Interested students should contact Mr. Peter Bobkowski and Mr. Jon Moody the moderators for all student publications.
