St. Thomas is proud to acknowledge Hunter Henderson ‘19 and Gabe Lenz ‘19 who have earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).

Henderson and Lenz continue the thriving legacy of Eagle scholars who have reached this milestone accomplishment that has been and continues to be richly recognized throughout the United States.

Henderson and Lenz completed their demanding service projects which benefited the Willow Waterhole Conservation Reserve located in the Westbury area near the intersection of South Post Oak Road and South Main St. The two were involved in the removal of non-native plants, created and updated signage for the trails, installed outdoor benches to improve the recreational greenspace and cleared hiking trails.

Henderson achieved his distinction through Troop 40 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the second oldest continuously operated troop in the Houston area founded in 1950. He also participates in the Order of the Arrow, the national honor society of BSA. Henderson will attend the University of Texas McCombs School of Business.

Lenz is the fourth generation of his family to receive Eagle Scout acclaim. He’s a member of Troop 99 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church and will study finance at Creighton University.

Lenz and Henderson join fellow Eagle scholars who all previously obtained Eagle Scout rank during the 2018-19 academic year including …

  • Diego Guajardo ‘19 (Troop 63)
  • Christian Groff ‘19 and Griffen Kindle ‘21 (Troop 55)
  • Joseph Lauckner ’19 (Troops 1332)
  • Michael Ethridge ‘19 and Tyler McStravick ‘19 (Troop 1004)
  • John Teague ‘19 (Troop 1940)

Their collective scouting successes are a testament to deep dedications to the BSA values of character, citizenship, community service, and allegiance to the purpose and goals of their respective troops – all consistent with the Basilian credo of Teach Me Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge.
