Service

Campus Ministry Service Program

Mission: To form saints who seek, desire, and attain Heaven through the virtues of goodness, discipline and knowledge.

Our Service Requirement for Each Eagle

Every enrolled student is expected to achieve and document 10 (freshmen) or 20 (sophomores, juniors, seniors) hours of mercy-based* service per year.  Activities may begin June 1, 2026, and must be completed by April 30, 2027. We expect 50% of service to be complete by mid-year (December 31, 2026).

How Students Achieve The Requirement

Students will have access to our service partner list, containing 200+ greater-Houston organizations. These vetted opportunities will qualify for service, as well as other opportunities and events that we publicize throughout the school year. Students may discover service opportunities independently, but must submit them to our director for approval beforehand.

Corporal Works of Mercy

Activities that satisfy our requirement must directly correlate to one or more of these categories, which meet the physical needs of others.

  • Feed the hungry (e.g. volunteer at a food bank or soup kitchen)

  • Give drink to the thirsty (e.g. participate in clean-water initiatives)

  • Give alms to the poor or the hopeless (e.g. making and delivering holiday cards to nursing home or children’s facility)

  • Visit the imprisoned (e.g. participate in a prison ministry; supervised letter-writing projects)

  • Shelter the homeless (e.g. volunteer at shelters or outreach programs)

  • Visit the sick (e.g. all medical programs; visiting the ill)

  • Bury the dead (e.g. serve at a funeral Mass; bereavement-related support)

  • Environmental & Resource Stewardship (e.g. environmental/outdoor projects; sustainability efforts; animal welfare)

  • Supporting Vulnerable Individuals (e.g. programs for children under 13, general elderly support, those with special needs)
  • Approved Projects at STH in support of the maintenance crew

Ineligible Work

  • Self-created opportunities that have not been approved in advance.
  • Helping friends, family/relatives, neighbors, or performing random acts of kindness.
  • Paid work, disciplinary actions, extra-curricular activities, donations, projects intended to receive a reward, or for faith formation.

Feel free to email our service director for questions.

Any activity that does not reflect one of the above will not count toward required service, but should still be documented under the category ‘General Volunteering’ in MobileServe™. Volunteerism is valuable for future experience.

Documenting Service

  • MobileServe™ software is the only method of proving service for credit. Every student is provided an account.
  • New students will receive training during New Student Orientation. Summer service documentation should be deferred until training occurs.
