Bridges to Life: We continue to grow in the number of inmates who complete our program each year. The process continues to have a very powerful impact on the lives of the inmate and volunteer participants. We are currently working in 17 prisons throughout Texas. In the greater Houston area, we are coordinating projects at prisons in Richmond, Sugar Land, Texas City, Dayton, Huntsville, and Navasota. We must have consistent growth in our volunteer base to deliver our unique and powerful process inside the prison walls. Please consider volunteering for an upcoming project. The Alumni Association in its present form has been in existence since 1991, and was the brainchild of Rev. Donald Cooper, C.S.B., a long time and beloved member of the St. Thomas community. Fr. Cooper was a member of the class of 1940. The Alumni Association's primary purpose is to bring alumni back to the St. Thomas campus and keep them involved in the St. Thomas Community. It is not a fund raising organization. Casino night, homecoming tailgate parties, sports appreciation night and the Distinguished Alumni and Service Awards have helped bring former students together to renew old friendships and make new ones. The Association also provides support, organization, and encouragement for class reunions.
The Association has given financial support to Youth in Government, the Spirit Club, school recruiting, school archives, stadium construction, centennial celebration, and the Capital Campaign. Its members also provide valuable volunteer support for Round Up, the Annual Appeal phonothon and Career Day. The Association has established the Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. The display is located in the vestibule of the Reckling gymnasium.
In an attempt to help St. Thomas graduates, an annual college scholarship program was approved and presented for the first time to a graduate of the class of 2000.
Presently, there are two types of memberships; a Life Membership for $200 and Annual Membership for $25. For your convienience, a membership form can be printed out.
