Obinna Umeh is an accomplished student-athlete, excelling both on the field and in the classroom. A varsity football captain and standout defensive end/outside linebacker, he has earned over 20 Division I offers from top programs including Stanford, Harvard, Michigan State, and Georgia Tech. He is committed to continuing his athletic and academic career at Duke University. In addition to football, Obinna competes in varsity track & field, specializing in sprints and relays.
Academically, Obinna is a National Honor Society member. He has earned multiple academic honors, including the William Goetzmann Academic Writing Contest award, the English I Award, and the U.S. History Award.
Obinna is also a committed leader and active member of the St. Thomas community. He serves on the Student Council, leading initiatives with the theology department, and is involved in the Tolton Society, Brothers Under the Cross, Pre-Med Club, Business Club, and Aquin Yearbook Staff. He volunteers regularly at youth football camps and local shelters, reflecting his strong values of service and faith.
Inspired by his older brother and driven by the school’s mission of goodness, discipline, and knowledge, Obinna has grown into a resilient, faith-filled leader. As he prepares to take the next step at Duke, he carries with him the lessons, friendships, and purpose shaped by his journey at St. Thomas.
