Matocha ’19 State High Jump Champion to Lead Eagles at TAPPS Championships

Peyton Matocha ’19 tied the state record in winning the high jump title at the TAPPS state track and field championships at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium at Baylor University in Waco.

Matocha cleared 6-04 to match his same performance in placing second at state as a freshman in 2016 and equaled the state standard first set in 2005.

Matocha’s effort led the defending 6A champions to a sixth-place team finish with 62 points that included …

  • Grant Williams ’17 third in the pole vault 12-06.00 and Nick Pane ’18 fourth 11-06.00 after second in 2016
  • Andreas Giannitsopoulos ’18 fifth in the discus for the second consecutive year 132-02
  • Max Banes ’18 fifth in the shot put 48-09.25
  • Myes Fucci ‘17 fourth in the 300 meter hurdles 41.33 and Luke Pane ‘20 fifth 41.97
  • Max Brower ‘17, Drew Addicks ‘17, Abel Caillouet ‘17 and Andrew Neaves ‘17 fifth in the 4×200 meter relay 1:31.65  
  • Bower eighth in the 200 meters
  • Fucci seventh in the 110 meter hurdles 16.53, Evan McGhee ‘19 eighth 17.03 and Giannitsopoulos ninth 17.04
