St. Thomas High School was honored with the Catholic Impact Awards at the Archdiocese’s annual Catholic Schools Opening Mass at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. More than 50 Catholic schools from across the Archdiocese were in attendance.
Each year, this award recognizes the school that most faithfully lives out the Corporal Works of Mercy, and it is truly a reflection of our entire community.
Among the many initiatives recognized were:
  • St. Thomas’ weekly commitment to serving meals at St. Martha’s Kitchen.
  • The school’s prison ministry, including the hundreds of rosaries made for the incarcerated through both Campus Ministry and Serviam.
  • Partnerships with more than 200 organizations throughout the Archdiocese that serve those most in need.
  • The student-favorite Los Angeles Mission Trip.
  • Our annual Thanksgiving meal service for those experiencing homelessness.
  • The cumulative 25,756 service hours completed by our students last year through Challenge Games, athletic programs, summer service opportunities, clean water initiatives, visits with the elderly, and countless other acts of charity that allow St. Thomas students to become the hands and feet of Christ in the community.
“A very special thank you goes to Veronica Looper, who is so often working tirelessly behind the scenes to coordinate our many service opportunities,” Director of Campus Ministry, Andrew Quittenton shared. “She can also be found each week leading our volunteers at St. Martha’s Kitchen. We are incredibly blessed to have her leading our Service Pillar, and this recognition is, in many ways, a testament to her faithful leadership.”
